Blomberg dryer problems we fix

Heat pump dryers need a technician who knows them

A heat pump dryer doesn’t use a heating element the way a vented dryer does. It dries with a small refrigeration system: an evaporator, a condenser and a compressor, plus a fan that moves air in a closed loop. When lint gets past the filters, it packs into the evaporator fins and the dryer slowly loses performance. Most “it doesn’t dry anymore” calls we get on Blomberg heat pump dryers come down to airflow, and some come down to the sealed system itself.

Our technician is ODP-certified for refrigerant handling, so we can diagnose the heat pump system properly, not just clean the filters and leave.

What we check on every Blomberg dryer call

1. Lint filter, filter drawer sponge and cloth, and the evaporator fins behind the drawer
2. Airflow through the closed loop and the fan
3. Moisture (dampness) sensor bars inside the drum
4. Condensate path: water tank, pump and drain hose
5. Door switch, drum belt, rollers and drive motor
6. Heat pump compressor and temperatures (heat pump models), or heating element and thermal protection (vented models)
7. Where the dryer is installed: closet ventilation openings and room temperature

Blomberg dryer maintenance, from the owner’s manual

• Lint filter: clean after every load. Blomberg also recommends washing it in warm water when a film builds up, and drying it fully before reinstalling.
• Filter drawer (heat pump models): the sponge and filter cloth behind the kick plate. The warning light comes on at most every 3 cycles. Rinse by hand and let the sponge dry.
• Evaporator: behind the filter drawer. Blomberg says to vacuum the lint off the fins, or clean them wearing gloves, because the fins are sharp.
• Moisture sensor: wipe the metal bars with a cloth dampened with vinegar about 4 times a year.
• Room temperature: Blomberg heat pump dryers are rated to run between +5°C and +35°C. In an unheated garage or storage room in winter, they can struggle.
