Blomberg Dryer Won’t Turn On? Control Board Failure and Repair

If your Blomberg dryer suddenly won’t turn on at all, with no lights, no beep and no response from the buttons, you’re not alone. A failed main control board (the electronic board that runs the dryer) is one of the most common faults we repair on Blomberg dryers, on both heat pump models (DHP24400W, DHP24412W, DHP24404W and similar) and vented models (DV17600W and similar).

The good news: in most cases the rest of the dryer is fine. The drum, motor, heat pump and heater still work. The dryer just can’t turn on without a working board. Fixing the control board is usually far cheaper than replacing a compact 24-inch dryer.

Signs of a Blomberg dryer control board failure

  • The dryer is completely dead: no display, no lights, no sound when you press Power.
  • The display lights up, but the buttons don’t respond or the dryer won’t start any program.
  • The dryer turns off by itself mid-cycle, or restarts randomly.
  • Lights flash or behave strangely, symbols show that don’t match anything in the manual.
  • It stopped working after a power outage, a surge or a breaker trip.
  • You hear a click from inside, but nothing starts.

Check these first (5 minutes)

  1. Power at the outlet. Plug in a lamp or phone charger to confirm the outlet works. Check the breaker panel for a tripped breaker.
  2. Plug and cord. In a stacked pair, the dryer plug can be pulled half out when the machines are pushed back.
  3. Door. Close the door firmly. A blinking Start/Pause light usually means the door isn’t detected.
  4. Child lock. If the display works but buttons don’t, the child lock may be on. Check your manual for how to turn it off.
  5. Power reset. Unplug the dryer or switch off the breaker for 5 minutes, then try again.

If the outlet has power and the dryer is still dead, the fault is inside the dryer. The most likely cause is the main control board. Less often it’s the door switch, a wiring connection or the power filter.

Why Blomberg control boards fail

  • Power surges and outages. Brief spikes when the power comes back can damage the electronics.
  • Heat and moisture. Compact dryers often sit in closed closets with little airflow. Heat over time is hard on electronic parts.
  • Lint. Lint that builds up inside the cabinet traps heat around the electronics.
  • Age and wear of electronic components like relays and capacitors.

How we repair it

  1. We confirm power at the outlet and at the dryer’s power input.
  2. We test the door switch, wiring and connectors so we don’t replace a board that isn’t the problem.
  3. We diagnose the main control board and repair or replace it, depending on the fault and parts availability for your model.
  4. We test the dryer through a full cycle and check the airflow and filters, so the new board isn’t stressed by overheating.

Our technician holds an ODP certification for refrigerant handling, so on heat pump models we can also check the heat pump system if needed.

Repair or replace the dryer?

A Blomberg compact dryer is expensive to replace, and a new unit often has to be ordered and installed in a tight closet or stacked on a washer. When the only problem is the control board, repairing it is almost always the better choice. We’ll tell you the cost before any work.

How to protect the new board

  • Clean the lint filter every load and the filter drawer on heat pump models when the light flashes.
  • Make sure a closet install has the ventilation openings described in the manual.
  • Consider a surge protector rated for appliances, if appropriate for your dryer’s outlet.

Frequently asked questions

My Blomberg dryer has power but nothing happens when I press Start. Is it the board?

Often, yes. First check the door and child lock. If those are fine, the control board or the door switch are the usual causes.

Can a control board be repaired the same day?

It depends on the fault and parts for your model. Tell us the model number when you call so we can check before the visit.

Does the same problem happen on Blomberg washers?

Blomberg washers can have control board failures too. We repair both.
