Blomberg Dryer Not Starting or Not Turning: Causes and Fixes
A Blomberg dryer that won’t start is one of the most common calls we get for compact 24-inch laundry in Metro Vancouver condos. Often the cause is simple: a setting, the door, or a filter warning. Sometimes a part has failed. This guide covers Blomberg heat pump dryers (DHP24400W, DHP24412W and similar) and vented dryers (DV17600W and similar).
Dryer completely dead, with no lights and no display? On Blomberg dryers that is most often a failed main control board. See Blomberg dryer won’t turn on: control board failure and repair, or call 604-729-0499.
First checks
- Power. Check that the dryer is plugged in and the breaker hasn’t tripped. Stacked dryers are easy to unplug by accident when the pair is pushed back.
- Door. A blinking Start/Pause light usually means the door isn’t fully closed. Close it firmly. Lint or clothing in the door opening can stop it from latching.
- Child lock. If the child lock is on, the buttons don’t respond. Your manual shows which button to hold to turn it off.
- Delay start. If a delayed start is set, the dryer waits before starting.
- Program selected and Start pressed. On some models you have to press Start/Pause after choosing the program.
Heat pump dryer: water tank and filter warnings
On heat pump models, a full water tank or a clogged filter can stop or pause the cycle. Empty the tank, clean the lint filter in the door and the filter drawer behind the kick plate, then restart. See Blomberg dryer warning lights explained.
Heat pump dryer that was moved or laid down
A heat pump dryer contains a compressor and refrigerant, like a small fridge. If it was transported on its side, Blomberg’s manual tells you to let it stand upright for a period before switching it on. Follow the time given in your installation manual. Running it too early can damage the compressor.
Drum doesn’t turn, but you hear a hum
- Broken drive belt. The motor runs, but the drum doesn’t. The drum often turns very easily by hand.
- Idler pulley or motor problem. A humming motor that can’t turn the drum may have a seized pulley or a motor fault.
- Something jammed between the drum and the front panel, like a small sock or a bra wire.
Dryer starts, then stops after a few minutes
- Overheating from blocked airflow: clean every filter and, on vented models, check the duct and outside vent.
- A room that’s too cold or too hot for a heat pump dryer. Blomberg rates its heat pump dryers for about +5°C to +35°C.
- A faulty sensor or control board.
Nothing lights up at all
If the display is completely dark with power at the outlet, the fault is usually the door switch circuit, a wiring connection or the main control board. This needs a technician with a meter. On Blomberg dryers, a failed control board is the most common cause of a completely dead dryer. Read more in Blomberg dryer won’t turn on.
What a repair involves
We check power at the dryer, the door switch, belt, idler pulley, motor, sensors and control. Belts, door switches and pulleys are common, affordable repairs. For heat pump models, our technician holds an ODP certification for refrigerant handling, so we can check the heat pump system too.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reset a Blomberg dryer?
Turn it off, unplug it or switch off the breaker for a few minutes, then try again. If the same problem returns, a part has likely failed.
Is it worth repairing a Blomberg dryer?
Usually yes. Blomberg compact dryers are expensive to replace, and most “won’t start” faults are a single part.
