LG Refrigerator Er IF (Er 1F) Error: Ice Fan Problem
Er IF (sometimes read as Er 1F) on an LG refrigerator is an ice fan error. The fan that moves cold air through the ice maker compartment isn’t spinning when it should. Ice production usually slows or stops, and the ice compartment may frost up.
Common causes
- Ice build-up around the fan blades, the most common cause. Warm, humid air gets in through a door that doesn’t seal fully, or when the door is left open.
- Failed fan motor, often after the fan has been jammed by ice for a long time.
- Wiring or connector problems, including wires that run through the door hinge on French-door models.
- Main control board fault (less common).
What you can try
- Manual defrost. Empty the ice bin, unplug the refrigerator (move food to a cooler) and leave the doors open for several hours, ideally overnight, so all the ice around the fan melts. Put towels down for water.
- Check the door seal. Make sure the left French door and the ice compartment door close tightly.
- Plug it back in and give it a day to recover.
When it’s a repair
If the error comes back within days or weeks, defrosting only treats the symptom. The fan motor may need to be replaced, or the cause of the moisture fixed: a gasket, the ice compartment seal, or a defrost problem. We diagnose the root cause so it doesn’t keep happening.
