LG Washer OE Error: Washer Won’t Drain
An OE error on an LG washing machine means the washer can’t drain the water from the tub within the expected time. LG lists it as a drain error. It appears on both front-load and top-load models.
What to check yourself
- Drain hose. Look behind the washer. The hose shouldn’t be kinked, crushed or pushed too far into the standpipe.
- Drain pump filter (front-loaders). Behind the small access panel at the bottom front of the washer there’s a filter that catches coins, hair ties, lint and small socks. Put down towels and a shallow tray, drain the water through the small hose, then unscrew and clean the filter.
- Listen to the pump. Run a Spin Only cycle. A hum or whir from the bottom of the washer means the pump motor is getting power. Silence often means the pump or its wiring has failed.
- Frozen drain line. In unheated spaces, check for ice in winter.
Once it’s cleared, run a Tub Clean or rinse-and-spin cycle to confirm.
When it’s a repair
If the filter and hose are clear but the washer still won’t drain, the drain pump has likely failed or has a broken impeller. Less often the problem is a blockage deeper in the sump hose, a wiring fault or the control board. Drain pump replacement is one of the most common washer repairs we do, and it’s usually a same-visit fix.
