Hisense Refrigerator Not Cooling: Causes and Fixes

Hisense refrigerators are good value and increasingly common in Metro Vancouver homes and rentals. When one stops cooling properly, the cause is usually one of a handful of things. Here’s how to narrow it down.

What to check yourself

1. Temperature settings. Make sure the settings weren’t changed by accident. A fridge around 3–4°C and a freezer around −18°C is typical.
2. Door seals. Close the door on a sheet of paper. If it slides out easily, the gasket isn’t sealing. Also check that nothing inside is stopping a door from closing.
3. Airflow inside. Overpacked shelves or food pushed against the rear vents block cold air from the freezer.
4. Condenser coils and clearance. Dusty coils and a fridge pushed tight against the wall make the compressor work harder. Vacuum the coils (unplug first) and leave space for airflow.
5. Listen. Can you hear the compressor and the fans running? Silence, clicking every few minutes or a loud buzzing noise are all clues.

Common repairs

• Freezer cold, fridge warm: usually a defrost problem (heater, sensor or control) or a failed evaporator fan. Frost build-up on the back panel of the freezer is a typical sign.
• Both sections warm: the condenser fan, the compressor start components or the control board.
• Error code on the display: Hisense codes vary by model. Note the code and your model number before you call.
