Haier Refrigerator Repair: Not Cooling, Freezer Problems and Leaks
Haier refrigerators and fridge freezers, from compact bar fridges to bottom-freezer and French-door models, are common in Metro Vancouver condos and suites. When a Haier fridge stops cooling properly, the cause is usually one of a few things. Here’s how to narrow it down and when to call for Haier refrigerator repair.
Haier fridge not cooling, freezer still cold
- Defrost system. Ice builds up on the evaporator and blocks airflow into the fridge. Look for frost on the back panel of the freezer.
- Evaporator fan. If the fan in the freezer doesn’t run while the compressor is on, cold air can’t reach the fridge.
- Air damper stuck closed on some models.
Haier fridge freezer not freezing
- Dirty condenser coils or no space around the fridge.
- Condenser fan not running.
- Compressor start components, the compressor or the control board.
- A door that doesn’t seal, letting warm air in.
Haier freezer repair: upright and chest freezers
For standalone Haier freezers, check the thermostat setting, the door seal and that the freezer isn’t in a space that’s too cold or too hot. Garage freezers in winter and hot storage rooms in summer both cause problems. Heavy frost on the walls usually means a seal problem or the door being opened often. A freezer that runs nonstop but doesn’t get cold needs a technician.
Water leaking from a Haier fridge
A clogged defrost drain is the usual cause of water under the crisper drawers or ice at the bottom of the freezer. On models with a water dispenser or ice maker, check the water line at the back as well.
Noises and error codes
Buzzing or grinding often means a fan is hitting ice. Error codes on Haier displays vary by model. Note the code and the model number from the label inside the fridge before you call.
What you can check yourself
- Confirm the temperature settings: about 3–4°C for the fridge and −18°C for the freezer.
- Test the door seals with a sheet of paper.
- Clear the vents inside.
- Unplug and vacuum the condenser coils.
- Listen for the compressor and fans.
